Caring for your pet after they have passed.
Some caregivers find solace in burying their beloved companion at home. Being mindful of caring for our environment with regards to the medications I use to help your companion to pass, there are several points to consider when choosing your pet’s resting place. I will gently talk you through these in advance.
If preferred I can arrange for dignified cremation of your pet. For over 17 years I have entrusted this to the care of the very lovely Meadow Wood Pet Cemetery, Kingsbridge. You may opt for your pet’s ashes to be buried in the peaceful garden at Meadow Wood (which you may visit) or you can opt for an individual cremation with your pet’s ashes returned home.
You may wish to make the last trip with your friend to Meadow Wood yourself. It is a beautiful place, very good for the soul. The team at Meadow Wood actively encourage this as they know it can help you on your path to accepting your pet’s passing. If you are arranging to travel yourself do consider a holding period where you say an extended and private goodbye to your pet after they have passed, perhaps by keeping them with you for one more night at home. I know from personal experience what a comfort this can be. More commonly I find clients wish for me to help with aftercare and so, for smaller pets, I will gently and respectfully arrange transport to Meadow Wood for cremation and for individual cremation make arrangements for you to bring your friend home. For larger pets (above 25kg) I can liaise with another lovely local crematorium, Valley Pet Crematorium, so that their team can visit you at home and arrange transport direct.
